In Mumbai, the CBI filed a chargesheet against income-tax officer Sandeep Singh on Monday. Singh, who was on deputation as an assistant director with the Enforcement Directorate (ED), was reportedly caught accepting a bribe in August. He led an ED search team that conducted a raid at a jeweller's residence in connection with an alleged money laundering case involving a Chinese-controlled investment app. Despite not being the investigating officer, Singh allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 20 lakh from the jeweller after the raid, threatening to arrest his son. The jeweller reported the incident to the CBI, who set up a trap and arrested Singh in Delhi after he received the bribe. Singh's bail application was previously denied by the sessions court, and he is currently in jail custody. Additionally, a phone not registered in Singh's name was seized by the CBI during his arrest.
